How playing Fields of Mistria convinced me to give Stardew Valley another try
Two Farming Sims, one supposedly more cozier than the other? Well, we'll be finding out!
Farming Sims:
Farming sims have taken over the cozy games and while many people are tired of seeing farming cozy games over and over again, its still a popular choice of game and every year, we have a new farming game out that’s compared to the core farming game, otherwise known as Stardew Valley!
What is Fields of Mistria and Stardew Valley?
Let’s start with Stardew Valley!
Stardew Valley was made by Concerned Ape, who is basically a one man team who has developed this game throughout the years. (We just had a 1.6 update in 2024)
Synopsis of the game — You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?
Platforms available — PC, Switch, iOS, Android, xBox One, PS4
Essentially, what you do is you play by creating the farm of your dreams, you have your own farm animals, you go fishing, tend to your crops and craft items. You get quests from residents in your town, which is called Pelican Town. Of course, out of these 30, 12 are dateable and you can start a family with them! You can also have kids (this is limited to 2 kids and they stay as toddlers)
However, here is the catch: Stardew Valley is a cozy game that requires a bit of grinding (I’m lying, I’ve heard its a lot😂😅) and to a lot of people, this game is not considered cozy due to the stress that comes with it. There are mods that you can use to make the game easier, such as slowing down time…etc.
Now keep in mind, I have not played this game. This is not a review from your Cottagecore Gamer! I tried the game three times on my steam deck but could never get into it.
Fast Forward to mid-to-late 2024:
Fields of Mistria was one of the highly anticipated release that came out in 2024! The art looks completely different than stardew valley and it is it’s own unique game. However, they do have a lot of similarities and have led to people comparing the two!
So what is Fields of Mistria about?
Synopsis of the game — Start your new life! Build the farm of your dreams as you discover a world brimming with possibilities. Magic, romance, and adventure all await you in this nostalgic farming / life sim RPG!
Platforms available — PC (in early access, should be in full access by end of 2025 but this can be changed depending on the developers)
So Fields of Mistria basically has you move into a village that has just suffered through an earthquake and ultimately you get your own farm and are meant to help restore the village to its glorious old form (or even better).
There are also 12 dateable characters but this is up to 6 stars now (From the new update in November 2024). The next update could possibly see us marrying them but for now, we have not reached that stage yet.
You can farm, fish, mine and craft! You can also cook, raise your animals and have a variety of breeds and colours of animals! There are magical elements in the game as well.
Why did I play Fields of Mistria?
I decided to give it a go because how could I resist? The game looks amazing and the design was quite different than the other games we have around.
I fell in love with it immediately! It is a low stress game in comparison to Stardew Valley (this could be because we are still in early access and we dont have everything yet).
As I spent more time playing fields of mistria, I finally decided to go from a vanilla gamer to a beginniner in mods! I added mods to my Fields of Mistria because the time passes by SO QUICK in the game and you walk so slow. The mods allow for a bit of customisation and made the game enjoyable
So why do I want to try Stardew Valley?
Now that I’ve played Fields of Mistria and I’m still quite enjoying it, I want more!😂 I have joined the farming game hype and I dont see me getting off it anytime soon.
I will be updating you guys on my first view review of Stardew Valley (which can be abbreviated to SDV, I dont know why I call it with its full name😂) soon!
Have you played either of the games and what do you think of it?
I’ve played both but I tried Fields Of Mistria on stream so I have no idea how it would be to just play it alone. I was obsessed with SV but then stopped and now it’s hard to get back cause I have no idea what I was doing before I stopped and I need a goal to carry on 😂
